Italy – Lazio – Bolsena
from €210,00 per person
Lake Bolsena is located in northern Lazio, on the border with Umbria and Tuscany. It is the largest volcanic lake in Europe, formed in fact, with the collapse of the volcanic Vulsinio, that following the volcanic eruptions emptied and collapsed on itself, forming a huge caldera, filled slowly by the water. Two beautiful islands, Bisentina and Martana, contrast the blue of its surface. Among the naturalistic features that distinguish it, there are the "sesse", sudden changes in the level of inland waters, like the tides, but unlike these, completely unpredictable, which can grow up to 50cm. Lake Bolsena is also one of the few Italian lakes where bathing and is also widely appreciated among sailing, windsurfing, sport fishing and lovers of nature, walks and cycling. Just a half hour drive away is Pitigliano, one of the most scenic villages of Tuscany, of Etruscan origin, entirely carved into the stone and crossed by numerous "vie cave", deep routes that sometimes exceed a kilometer long, with high walls up to 20 meters. A magical place that deserves a suggestive visit.
